Social media

DeepState fetches posts, profiles and search results from four platforms directly, without any third-party API service. Some things work anonymously; some need an account you connect under Settings → Integrations.

What works where

X / TwitterRedditBlueskyYouTube
Fetch a post by URL (paste, fetch_social_post, create_social)✓ (as Embed)
Search posts (social_search)account required
User timeline (get_user_timeline)account required
User profile (get_user_profile)

The connection indicators in the status bar (bottom of the window) show which accounts are connected; hover for details.

X / Twitter

Public posts are fetched anonymously through X's embed syndication endpoint, so pasting a tweet URL always works. Search, timelines, user search and feed subscriptions require an account.

Connecting

Settings → Integrations → Twitter/X Account. Two methods:

  • Import cookies (recommended). Log into X in your browser, export the site's cookies as JSON with an extension such as Cookie-Editor or EditThisCookie, and paste the JSON. DeepState uses the session as your browser would; there is no password to store.
  • Username / password (with email if X asks for it). DeepState logs in for you and keeps the resulting session.

Either way you must tick the acknowledgement first:

Account ban risk

X actively detects automated access. Any account you connect can be suspended at any time. Use a secondary account, not your primary one. DeepState keeps request volume low and mimics a normal client, but it cannot make this risk zero.

Logout in the same section discards the session. Sessions are stored encrypted.

Reddit

Everything works anonymously. Posts and comments are read through Reddit's public JSON endpoints in a hidden browser window, which also handles Reddit's bot checks. Video posts are archived to the board including audio where Reddit provides it. Subreddit and user feeds are ordinary RSS.

Bluesky

Public posts, profiles, search and timelines work anonymously through the public AT Protocol API. Connecting an account (Settings → Integrations → Bluesky: your handle and an app password from Bluesky settings → App passwords, never your main password) raises rate limits and lets DeepState see what your account can see. Bluesky has no ban-risk warning: app passwords are a supported, revocable mechanism.

YouTube

Video pages become Embed nodes with a preview. The Pro research tools go further: youtube_transcript pulls the transcript (long ones summarized around a focus you give), youtube_comments fetches top-level comments with authors and like counts, and youtube_channel_videos lists a channel's recent uploads by @handle, URL or channel ID. Channel feeds are available to everyone through the RSS quick-add. No account is needed for any of it.

Other platforms

Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, TikTok, Threads and Mastodon URLs are recognised and become Embed nodes with an OpenGraph preview (title, description, image). DeepState does not fetch post content from them. For material on those platforms, save a screenshot as a Media node and paste the text into the node or a Note.

What is stored

A Social Post node keeps the post text, author, metrics, media and thread relationships at the time of capture, plus the evidence fields - captured at, archived URL, deleted flag, credibility, verification status. Media is copied to the board's folder. If the post is later deleted, your copy remains, and marking it deleted shows a DELETED overlay on the card.

Privacy

Connected sessions are used only to make requests you or the assistant trigger. DeepState never posts, likes, follows or messages from a connected account, never reads your DMs, and never sends your credentials anywhere except the platform itself. Credentials are stored encrypted with the OS keyring (see Security).

Troubleshooting

  • "Authentication expired" - the X session lapsed. Re-import cookies or log in again.
  • X search returns nothing - search needs a connected account; check the status bar.
  • Reddit fetch fails - Reddit is rate-limiting the hidden browser; wait a minute and retry.
  • Bluesky post 404 - the post is from an account that has blocked public access, or was deleted. Try wayback_lookup.
